Scores

Score reporting

Three scores are reported on the GRE General Test:

 

Section Score Scale
Verbal Reasoning 130–170, in 1-point increments

Quantitative Reasoning

 130–170, in 1-point increments

Analytical Writing

 0–6, in half-point increments

 

Any section in which the test taker answers no questions at all is reported as a No Score (NS).

With the ScoreSelect® option, test takers who retake a GRE test can decide which GRE scores from the last 5 years to send to designated institutions. Institutions receive score reports that show the scores that test takers selected to send to them. There are no special notations to indicate whether other GRE tests have been taken.

Receiving scores

Scores are available approximately 8–10 days after the test date and are reportable for 5 years following the individual's test date.

The fastest way for institutional score users to receive scores is through the ETS® Data Manager, a secure web-based system that provides fast, convenient score report viewing/printing capabilities. It is updated daily, Monday to Friday and scores are available in the system for as long as scores are valid. Approved GRE score users can also view test takers' Analytical Writing responses, which are authentic samples of an applicant's writing, in the ETS Data Manager.

 

My program no longer wants to receive paper score reports. How do I discontinue paper score reporting?

If you would like ETS to stop sending paper reports to your institution, please have your school's designated central GRE score recipient or the Dean of the Graduate School contact ETS Code Control at codecontrol@ets.org.
