PRINCETON, N.J. (June 5, 2026) — ETS, a global education and talent solutions organization, today announced that Catherine Truitt, former North Carolina State Superintendent of Public Instruction, has joined the organization as a Senior Strategic Advisor.

Truitt will advise ETS leadership on priorities spanning K–12 education, workforce readiness, skills-based credentialing, state policy, and the future of learning and assessment. She will partner closely with teams across the organization to strengthen collaboration with states, educators, employers, and policymakers, helping advance solutions that connect learning to opportunity.

"Education and workforce systems are being reshaped in real time," said Amit Sevak, CEO of ETS. "Catherine has spent her career connecting policy, practice, and innovation to improve outcomes for learners. She understands the challenges and opportunities ahead, and her leadership will help accelerate our work to prepare more people for success in education and work."

Truitt brings nearly three decades of experience across classroom teaching, higher education, state government, and enterprise leadership. Most recently, she served as North Carolina’s elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction, leading a $13 billion public education system serving 1.5 million students and 100,000 educators across 115 districts. During her tenure, the state achieved three consecutive years of post-pandemic academic recovery, expanded evidence-based literacy initiatives, increased student credential attainment by 89 percent, and strengthened alignment between K–12 education, postsecondary pathways, and workforce needs.

“The future belongs to organizations that can help learners translate knowledge into opportunity,” said Truitt. “As education, work, and technology continue to converge, we need better ways to recognize what people know, what they can do, and how they continue learning throughout their lives. ETS is uniquely positioned to help lead that work through its commitment to research, innovation, and measurement science. I am excited to contribute to that mission and to help states, educators, and employers create stronger pathways to success for every learner.”

Truitt’s role as Senior Strategic Advisor comes at a time where ETS’s efforts to help states, institutions, and employers better understand and recognize learner achievement, skills, and readiness is at its most critical. Her deep knowledge around navigating key educational issues including artificial intelligence, durable skills, workforce-aligned pathways, evidence-based policymaking, and the evolving role of assessment in supporting learner success will serve the organization as they continue their work across the U.S.

Truitt currently serves as President of Polaris Education Strategies, where she advises education organizations, state agencies, and national coalitions on strategy, innovation, and policy. Her recent work includes supporting state education agencies in developing research-driven learning agendas, advising leaders on artificial intelligence and durable-skills assessment, and contributing to national initiatives focused on education research and development.
